With the addition of the M.Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm f/2.8 PRO, the PRO series now provides a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 from ultra wide-angle to telephoto.
This lens possesses optical performance that rivals the popular Four Thirds High Grade series. A rational lens design of 14 elements in 9 groups, including 2 ED lenses, 1 EDA lens, and 2 HR lenses, enables a compact form and excellent image capture.
It is possible to achieve a closest focusing distance of 20cm from the sensor at all focal distances without switching to macro mode. At the telephoto setting, close-up shooting is possible up to 7cm from the end of the lens. Macro shooting is possible up to a maximum image magnification of 0.3x (35mm equivalent: 0.6x). Because you can approach main subjects up to 9cm from the end of the lens at the wide-angle setting, wide-angle macro shooting with an exaggerated sense of perspective is possible. This is a truly versatile lens.
Olympus' highly-transmittable ZERO (Zuiko Extra-low Reflection Optical) Coating is applied to the lens surface to eliminate previously hard-to-prevent occurrences such as ghosts and flares. ZERO Coating boasts clear image quality even under challenging conditions such as a backlit condition.
Dustproof, splashproof and freezeproof performance are achieved through hermetic sealing. This prevents incursion of water and dust through the waterproof, air permeable material.
This lens is equipped with the manual focus clutch mechanism, which makes instant switching to manual focus easy by pulling the focusing ring towards you. By increasing resolving power with the snapshot focus mechanism, smooth and fine focusing equal to traditional manual focusing is possible. You can still focus in the traditional sense by utilising the stoppers at the extremely close end, and the infinity end of the focus ring.
The MSC (Movie and Still Compatible) mechanism is the latest in optical design technology, achieving fast and silent focusing with a lightweight form with minimum number of lenses. The gears have been removed, eliminating operational noise. A sub-micron precision metal axis (shaft) and fast-moving linear motor drive system is used for direct driving of the focusing lens. This lens employs an inner focusing system that uses the MSC mechanism, and focuses using a compact, lightweight focusing unit consisting of two cemented lenses. This enables fast, quiet autofocusing. The AF system allows users to comfortably shoot both still images and movies.
The supplied LH-66 lens hood features a useful lock mechanism.
This bag can store three f/2.8 PRO lenses and an OM-D. A separately available camera case (CS-42SF) or the sub-case can be attached to the sides of the bag to extend its functionality. Sturdy 2525D polyester is used for the outer material so the camera bag can be used even when shooting in severe environments.
