OM-D Movie: Cinema-quality Handheld Videos

OM-D Movie capability provides powerful image stabilisation for handheld cinema-quality 4K video recording. The E-M1X also features OM-Log mode, providing a flat colour profile for shooting and post production colour grading for videographers.

Dust, splash, and freeze proof construction

Highly reliable dust, splash and freeze proof weather sealing of the E-M1X is also great for shooting video. Even when cables are connected to the microphone and headphone terminals the weather sealing is maintained, allowing you to shoot with the need of a rain cover and stay nimble while shooting.

Handheld 4K and Cinema 4K shooting

In addition to the powerful 5-axis in-body image stabilisation the E-M1X has dedicated video electronic stabilisation for handheld 4K and Cinema 4K (C4K) shooting. The image stabilisation strength has three levels to allow the photographer flexibility to match their position and movement.

High Bit Rate recording and multi-frame support

4K recording is available in 102 Mbps and Cinema 4K (C4K) recording is available in 237 Mbps high bit rates. Multi Frame Rate (60p, 50p, 30p, 25p, and 24p) is also supported.

Image size Frame rate Bit rate
4K 30P, 25P, 24P 102 Mbps
Cinema 4K (C4K) 24P 237 Mbps
FHD 60P, 50P, 30P, 25P, 24P ALL-Intra (202 Mbps), SuperFine (52 Mbps), Fine (30 Mbps), Normal (18 Mbps)
  • ALL-Intra (202 Mbps) frame rate is available in 30P, 25P, and 24P only.

OM-Log

1. 8bit Code Value / 2. Exposure amount [EV] / 3. OM-Log400 / 4. Flat / 5. Natural

OM-Log mode is now available for colour grading in post-production and editing. OM-Log provides a high degree of freedom during shooting without worrying about overexposure, loss of details in dark sections and highlights. A LUT (Look Up Table) file is also available for grading using Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve.

  • Natural
  • OM-Log400 + Grading
  • Flat
  • OM-Log400 without grading

RAW video data output

(Added feature in firmware version 2.0)

RAW video output to external equipment is now supported, enabling advanced post-production tasks for video production pros. RAW video data can be output in 12 bit 4K 30P, 25P and 24P/Cinema 4K 24P. It is recorded in Apple ProRes RAW format on the supported external output device.

AF improvements for video shooting

Active use of On-chip Phase Detection AF and improved algorithms has resulted in precision focusing during video shooting. Group 9-point and Group 25-point have been added to AF Target for shooting video, and AF setting customisation has also been improved.

  • Group 9-point
  • Group 25-point
  • AF tracking sensitivity settings
  • Operation speed settings

HDMI Monitor connection

This model is equipped with HDMI Monitor connection for authentic video production tasks. Support for 4:2:2 output enables a greater range of colour correction, Monitor Mode enables external monitor use, and Recording Mode enables recording to an external monitor. A magnified display is also possible on the camera monitor while recording video. Signal synchronisation is also supported for HDMI output recording.

  • When recording simultaneously on the camera, 4:2:0 is upsampled to 4:2:2.
  • Some functions may not be available depending on the external recorder.

High Speed Movie (120 fps)

High Speed Movie (120 fps) now supports Full HD recording for more creative control.
