The use of a HR (High Refractive Index) lens, ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lens and aspherical lens elements makes possible amazing 18X zooming capability, as well assharp, natural imaging capability, in a compact lens. Various types of unwanted aberrations are effectively suppressed and, with a wide-angle 28-504 mm* working distance, you'll have complete shooting flexibility from near to far. You can also combine the 5.6X digital zoom with the optical zoom to enable breathtaking super-telephoto shooting at up to 100X (2800 mm*). And if that's not enough to satisfy your creative demands, we have designed an exclusive selection of optional conversion lenses to expand your shooting possibilities.
A high-precision 7.1 megapixel CCD captures the most exquisite details of life, while the TruePic TURBO image processor enhances image quality still further and ensures quick camera response.
The CCD-shift image stabiliser automatically compensates for camera shake by shifting the CCD in the direction opposite to the shake. This minimises the blurring caused by camera shake and is especially effective in super-telephoto shooting. At the same time, since the higher ISO sensitivity settings of up to 1600 (or even 5000* in the manual mode) mitigate the image blur caused by the subject movement, further enhancing the image stabilisation effect.
Thanks to its low power-consumption design, the SP-550UZ's provides enough power for about 490 shots (CIPA test standards) with the included AA alkaline batteries. You'll be able to enjoy continuous, worry-free shooting even during a long trip or big event.
The large 2.5-inch LCD monitor lets you enjoy big, easy-to view images in both shooting and viewing modes. And because the SP-550UZ's EVF (electronic viewfinder) uses hexagonal pixels instead of the conventional square pixels, image edges look smoother and clearer than with conventional models.
In addition to "normal" high-speed sequential shooting of 7 frames per second (in 3-megapixel mode), the new SP-550UZ's also features super high-speed sequential shooting of up to 15 frames at 1.2 megapixels. There's also a unique Pre-capture mode that lets you capture up to 5 frames before you release the shutter button so you'll never miss that perfect shot.
In addition to its wide working range from 28 mm* to 504 mm*, the SP-550UZ is equipped with a super macro function that lets you get nose to nose with your subjects (as close as 1 cm), making it possible to take gorgeous frame-filling close-up images of tiny subjects.
With Full Auto shooting, four exposure modes (P / A / S / M), 21 different Scene Programme modes, the SP-550UZ has got just about every possible shooting situation covered.
