title The Olympus µ 795 SW: Built to the Toughest Extreme
date 2007-10-31

Olympus, the industry leader in opto-digital technologies and pioneer in the digital camera market, today introduced the versatile Olympus µ 795SW digital compact camera that supports both active and formal use. Shockproof, dustproof,*1 and waterproof to a depth of 10 meters,*2 the Olympus µ 795SW also features the advanced functionality of a newly developed image processing engine and a 7.1-megapixel*3 sensor. Furthermore, the versatile silver and black body is both rugged and elegant, with a sleek and flat design epitomising a luxury timepiece. It has added advanced technologies to its predecessor, the µ 770SW.

Bearing similar characteristics as the rest of the µ SW (Shockproof & Waterproof) series, which combine compact stylishness and robust versatility, the Olympus µ 795SW is 1.5-meter drop test compliant,*4 and features a folded optical path lens, internal cushioning, a suspension mount for key electronic components, and a highly rigid body. The perimeter of the body is protected by a stainless steel frame capable of withstanding forces of up to 100 kgf *5. Built to withstand outdoor use, the Olympus µ 795SW is at home in any scene, and can be carried almost anywhere without fear of breakage.

Reinforced to withstand water pressure at all key points, the body assures waterproof operation at depths up to 10 m,*6 enabling users to enjoy photography without using a protective housing when snorkeling or surfing. Due to its dustproof*7 ability, there is also no need to worry handling the camera on the beach. For skiing and other winter sports, and for mountain climbing, the Olympus µ 795SW's cold-weather shooting capability of functioning at temperatures as low as -10°C *8, opens up a whole new range of photo opportunities.

Possessing superior technologies, the Olympus µ 795SW incorporates proprietary Olympus face-detection technology and Shadow Adjustment Technology that ensures the correct focus, and balanced exposure of human subjects in the foreground and scenery in the background. It also recognizes when there are no people in the frame, and automatically adjusts the focus and exposure accordingly.

Improved imaging performance is guaranteed with the Olympus TruePic III image processor that ensures smooth edge reproduction and reproduces even the palest colour. This works as an outstanding combination with the camera's high-resolution lens and 7.1 megapixel image sensor to achieve truly outstanding image quality.
